Local Volunteer Angela Graves Wins National Award

Angela Graves is the embodiment of a remarkable volunteer. Since getting involved with GOTR in 2019, Angela has stepped up to take on more and more responsibilities within our organization. Angela began her career with GOTR Memphis as a coach. She deepened her commitment to GOTR by becoming a Coach Trainer. In 2020, Angela answered another call to action as a founding member of our program committee. Through this committee, Angela had a variety of tasks- all of which she did expertly & with a sense of joy! This past Fall, Angela offered her expertise to manage our website.  When asked why she wanted to add more to her plate, Angela said, "I would do anything for this organization. I just love the mission of GOTR."

“Volunteers are the heart of the Girls on the Run program. We simply could not deliver our life changing program without their kindness, generosity, and commitment!” says Executive Director Joanna Lipman. Last year, Girls on the Run Memphis was fortunate to have close to 400 volunteers, and this year, we are so proud to recognize Angela with this meaningful award.”

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that helps girls in 3rd through 8th recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others through the innovative integration of fun physical activities, life-skills lessons, and impactful community projects. The coaches and curriculum create a sense of belonging for all participants and meet the vital needs of girls today. The program culminates in a community impact project and a celebratory 5K. Girls on the Run Memphis offers programs in schools and community sites across Shelby County. For more information and to get involved, visit: www.gotrmemphis.org.
