Memphis, Tennessee (October 2nd, 2022) — It is your time to help young girls across the greater-Memphis area shine as they run toward success. Girls on the Run Memphis (GOTR) will host their end-of-season race at Overton Shell on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. This 5K celebrates third through eighth-grade girls who completed the fall program. Community members are invited to join our girls, their running buddies, and family members for this fun event.

This family-friendly event celebrates every participant by giving them a tangible sense of accomplishment, showcasing the power of community support, and reminding them of their unstoppable strength and resiliency.

There are several ways you can contribute to this event:

• VOLUNTEER to help make this event a success for all our girls

• CHEER on our girls as they run the course

• RUN or WALK the 5K as a RUNNING BUDDY

By participating in the Girls on the Run Memphis 5K, you are making it possible for girls from all over  Memphis to participate in this unique social and emotional development program. There has never been a more important time for Girls on the Run to provide invaluable lessons and opportunities that build confidence, connections, character, and healthy habits for our participants.

Since its inception, the organization has served more than 900 girls at approximately 14 program sites including local parks, community centers, and public, private, and charter schools.

“It is more important than ever to support our young girls as they develop healthy habits like running and participating in sports,” said Joanna Lipman, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Memphis. “Through the course of a season, we really see these young women blossom. We watch them become more self- confident, develop deeper connections with their peers, and become stronger advocates for themselves. It is our hope that they will leave this program knowing they have a community supporting them in all their endeavors.”

Girls on the Run is fortunate to partner with the University of Memphis, Rhodes College and the YMCA to expand our reach and increase awareness of the program and the  upcoming celebratory race.”
